Communication Sources Quora:: No one is good at communicating in every medium. But most CEOs are good are communicating in at least (and often at most) one medium.

The most important thing for a CEO is to confine oneself to communicating in the medium of your choice — and then to get great at it.

You might be great at communicating with your employees in town hall settings.

You might be great at communicating with customers through long-form blogs.

You might be great at communicating with investors through slide presentations.

thou might be great at communicating with customers via a live demo.

You might great at communicating in small groups in a conference room and a whiteboard.

You might be great at communicating one-on-one. You might be an amazing (and funny) Twitter communicator.

thou are likely not good at all things, and that is ok (and expected).

communicationOne thing most CEOs get wrong is they spend massive amounts of time trying to improve communication in mediums they are not good at.

Better to be great at communicating in just one form that to be decent at communication in 8 forms.

It is also important to note that you don’t have to be able to give a great TED talk with no notes to be a CEO. You don’t have to be able to master a crowd in a large auditorium to be a CEO.

You don’t have to be as good at public speaking as Steve Jobs or Bill Clinton to be an amazing CEO. And assuming you are not great, don’t worry.

Just focus on the one communication medium you are good at. Don’t do things just because other well-known CEOs do it. Find your voice and then amplify it by focusing on your strengths.
